About

Once our children were grown, our careers well-matured with over 30 year careers, we (Karen and Jack) met, married, and planned a dream to build and run a Bed & Breakfast.   The compromise was that Virginia is Karen’s home state and she wanted to return there.  But the property os on a small airport (W-91).  Being a pilot, Jack is in heaven living so near to his plane, that he can walk out the door and jump in!

In 2008, we started building the Hangar and have now outfitted it as a comfy area to stay when we are at the lake.  With a travel trailer in the hangar and informal living space, we will live a minimalist lifestyle while constructing our new house.  We have been commuting doing small hangar improvements the past 3 years while the economy was in control of our next move.  But through patience and more patience, we now have a good contract in hand.  We are sooooo hopeful that the closing will occur the end of June and we can break ground on the B & B this summer!

Smith Mountain Lake is beautiful, especially by boat or by air!  There is over 500 miles of shoreline and all kinds of coves so that driving from one section of the lake to another it takes awhile, so boating is far more convenient.

    Hi Karen,
You don’t know me… but I’m an Extension Master Gardener in Greenville, NC and received an email from Lucy Bradley via Danny Lauderdale (Hort. Ext. Agent Pitt County) about “Dirt” which I passed on to several new mothers. Checked out your blog and was so interested in Bedford Landings. I have relatives that live in Bedford and have been going there forever. I love that part of VA!!!!!! Don’t get to Smith Mtn Lake very often but my aunt plays bridge in Moneta “all the time”! Husband and I visit couple of times a year. If you enjoy good food, we’ve been very pleased with Bedford Social Club and Millstone Tea Room. Lots of folks like Liberty Station. Have eaten there but it seems more like fancy fast food. Love your plans for the B&B and airplane hanger! Wish you guys all the best! Rosanne Davis
